Frequently asked about exercise physiology
- How is an Exercise Physiologist different from a personal trainer?
- An EP holds a 4-year university degree and is registered with ESSA. EPs deliver exercise as a clinical intervention — rehab, chronic disease, complex cases — and your sessions can be claimed through Medicare CDM, DVA, NDIS or private health extras.
- Do I need a GP referral?
- Only if you want to claim a Medicare CDM rebate (~$58/session). You can see an EP without a referral and pay privately, or claim through your private health extras.
- What conditions do EPs typically work with?
- Cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, chronic pain, osteoarthritis, post-surgery rehab, neurological conditions, cancer recovery, mental health, and many more.
